DEVELOPMENT AND MIGRATION ISSUES BECOME MORE INTERRELATED
DRESDEN - Turkish Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu said on Monday that development and migration issues become more interrelated.
Speaking at the informal meeting of EU interior & justice ministers in Germany, Aksu said, "the more the gap between the rich and poor countries become bigger, the more migration movements become widespread."
Aksu said illegal migration increased from the East to the West, indicating that illegal migration was an international problem. He said this problem required international cooperation.
Aksu said inclusion of Prum Convention (on police cooperation in cross border crimes) into European law was an important development.
"Migration policy should be determined till the year 2010. Germany suggested a method as the EU rotating president. Almost all the countries joined this. Groups will be established in order to make more transparent decision," Aksu said.
Aksu said he has reaffirmed at the meeting that cooperation among EU member countries should be improved against illegal migration.
