VIENNA - Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik said on Monday that the European Union should keep doors open for Turkey`s membership.
"It would be wiser for us to try and reach realistic targets without closing the doors on Turkey," she told journalists while speaking on the new coalition government`s program.
"We took a new turn in negotiations in 2005. The ball is in Turkey`s court now to move ahead on this path, and implement the reforms and fulfill its promises," she said.
Plassnik however stated that "other alternatives" should not be ruled out for Turkey besides full membership.
