ANKARA - Turkish State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Monday that Justice & Development Party (AKP) Group Administration will submit a motion to open a debate about developments in Iraq.
Speaking after Council of Ministers meeting, Sener said, "important developments have been occuring in Iraq recently and all those interested Turkey. Turkey has been taking those developments seriously from the very beginning."
Sener said assessments Deniz Baykal, leader of the main opposition Republican People`s Party (CHP), made on sending Turkish troops to Iraq and recent developments in the country were of importance for the government and stated that the government had always welcomed dialogue with the opposition parties.
Responding to a question whether the government would consider getting authorization from the parliament to deploy troops to Iraq, Sener noted that the AKP would first submit a motion to open a debate about recent developments in Iraq and added that receiving an authorization to send troops needed a different parliamentary procedure.
"There are no decisions taken regarding this issue," Sener said.
