ANKARA - Parliamentary General Assembly on Wednesday adopted law adding a temporary article to the law regarding Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). President Ahmet Necdet Sezer earlier sent back the law to Parliament for reconsideration.
Oya Arasli, Republican Peoples' Party (CHP) Ankara Parliamentarian, said President Sezer had sent back the law taking into consideration general principles of the Constitution and law, and defended that Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and the Parliament carried out proceedings contrary to law.
Arasli said there was no public benefit in the arrangement, noting that the ruling party acted in line with their political targets.
Presidency Press Center which earlier issued a statement stressed that the arrangement, which gave authority to the prime minister to make appointments for all vacant memberships of the council, was not appropriate to public benefit and the principle of state of law.
The statement said that appointment to all vacant memberships of the council by a political organ would overshadow national and international respect and neutrality of studies and publications of the council.
