LUXOR - US Secretary State Condoleezza Rice expressed Washington's "disappointment" Monday with the manner in which two of Saddam's lieutenants were hanged, saying it should have been done with "greater dignity".
Speaking at a press conference with Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Gheit in the Nile city of Luxor, Rice said that while Monday's pre-dawn execution of Saddam's associates was an Iraqi process, "we were disappointed there was not greater dignity given to the accused under these circumstances".
Saddam's half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan al-Tikriti and chief judge Awad al-Bandar were hung in Baghdad early Monday. In the course of the hanging, Barzan's head flew off.
