Minimum Wage Fixing Commission Meeting Ends

ANKARA - The third meeting of Minimum Wage Fixing Commission to determine minimum wage which will be valid as of January 2004 ended on Tuesday.
Representatives of the State Institute of Statistics (DIE) and the Treasury made presentations about the current economic situation of Turkey during the meeting held at Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
The Confederation of Turkish Labor Unions (Turk-Is) Financial Secretary General Ergun Atalay who represented workers in the meeting said that the presentations showed that economic situation of Turkey was positive and they, as workers sector, were hopeful about this situation.
The Confederation of Employers' Unions (TISK) representative Nihat Yuksel met with Labor and Social Security Minister Murat Basesgioglu after the meeting and said that there was a recovery in the economy, but employment rate did not increase.
Yuksel said that they requested various alternatives to be brought onto agenda while fixing minimum wages.
The fourth meeting of commission will be held on December 17.
