Cavusoglu: President Bashar Al-asad Of Syria Told Us That They Would Eradicate Terrorism

ANKARA - Turkey-Syria Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman Yuksel Cavusoglu held a press conference on Tuesday and gave information about his visit to Syria between December 2 and 6, 2003.
Noting that they had received great hospitality in Syria, Cavusoglu said, ''we had the opportunity of meeting with President Bashar Al-Asad of Syria. He told us that Turkey and Syria had been sharing historical and cultural ties. President Al-Asad noted that they would not allow terrorist activities targeting Turkey, and pledged to eradicate terrorism.''
Noting that President Al-Asad would pay a visit to Turkey between January 6 and 8, 2004, Cavusoglu said, ''President Al-Asad told us that he attributed great importance to Turkey's security.''
Cavusoglu told reporters that Syrian side asked Turkey to open a Turkish bank in Damascus or in Aleppo.
''Syrian officials highlighted importance of military, economic and political co-operation between the two countries,'' he added.
