LEFKOSA - TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu said on Monday that the opposition wanted to come to power to sign the Annan plan, adding that the existing government instead would claim ownership on TRNC and further improve relations with Turkey.
Responding to questions of A.A, Prime Minister Eroglu said that this week was the last week before holding of the elections, adding that ''we believe that our electors will act in common sense and National Unity Party, which trusts its people, will be the winner of the elections again as the government party.''
''Some political parties came to power in the past, but they left the government as they could not continue holding that responsibility. They left the government when they had difficulties in order not to be worn out more. Now those who did that in the past, want to come to power. Our citizens will certainly evaluate that,'' Eroglu said.
The opposition wanted to come to power just to sign Annan plan and to get rid of Turkey, Eroglu said, adding that the state would be removed by signing the Annan plan.
Eroglu said that the opposition wanted to come to power to sign Annan's plan, although it knew the state would be removed and Turkish Cypriot people would lose their properties and jobs with this plan and stated, ''we are working to protect TRNC and for Turkish Cypriot people to improve their prosperity and live peacefully under the security of Turkey.'' Eroglu noted that they also wanted to be in a position of government which was seeking for a lasting agreement.
When reminded statements of the left opposition which said that ''elections could be corrupted,'' Eroglu said that the opposition did not respect Turkish Cypriot people. He stated that it was impossible as there would be personnel of Supreme Election Board (YSK) during elections.
Eroglu said that TRNC was a democratic country and stated that elections had been held there since 1976.
