ISTANBUL - State Minister Guldal Aksit returned to Turkey from Italy, where she attended the 2003 European Year of People with Disabilities closing conference in Rome.
Speaking to reporters, Aksit said that they saw once again during the conference that the priorities of Turkey and EU member countries about disabled persons were different.
''In Turkey, there are more disabled persons between the ages of 20 and 30, while in European countries the disabled persons are generally among old people. In European countries, the nursing and medical services come the first, while in Turkey employment and prevention of disabilities by early diagnosis are more important,'' Aksit said.
Aksit said that experiences were discussed during the conference which was useful.
