ISTANBUL - Health Minister Recep Akdag left for Sudan on Monday as the guest of Sudanese Health Minister Ahmed Ballal.
Akdag told reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport that he was leaving for Sudan upon the invitation of Ballal whom he had met during the World Health Organization (WHO) 56th Health Assembly and also within the scope of government's policy of opening to north Africa. He added that Turkish Health Fair would start at the same time with his visit.
Akdag said that the protocol on cooperation on health field which was signed with Sudan in 1998 was revised according to present needs. He added that they would sign a new protocol to accelerate the cooperation on health field between two countries.
Noting that he would be received by Sudanese President and he would hold bilateral meetings with various officials during his visit, Akdag said that he would visit some health institutions especially Kalakla Hospital which was built by Turkey in Sudan in 1996.
