BRITAIN LIFTS THE WARNING ''DON'T VISIT TURKEY''
British Foreign Ministry issued a statement and lifted the warning, which it had made following the bomb attacks in Istanbul, saying ''don't go to Turkey unless it is extremely necessary and urgent.''
Reiterating that danger of terrorism was still high in Turkey, the statement advised its citizens to be careful in their visits to all regions of Turkey.

TERROR AND CYPRUS REPROACH TO EU
Cyprus and terrorist attacks in Istanbul were high on the agenda during the luncheon which Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted for the ambassadors of European Union (EU) member countries to Turkey.
Erdogan said, ''we know that Cyprus question should be solved. We have made statements many times in this respect. Despite this Cyprus was included in strategy paper. This pushed the reforms fulfilled by Turkey to back plan.
The ambassadors accepted that Cyprus was not a Copenhagen criteria, yet gave the message that solution of the question would be in favor of Turkey.
Complaining that there was no pressure put on Greek Cypriot side, Erdogan said, ''I have difficulty in explaining this to my people.''

UNINTERRUPTED KORAN COURSE
The government changed the regulation on Koran courses. Religious education can be given 24 hours and 365 days from now on. Schools will be open during summer for courses. Under the new regulation prepared by the Directorate of Religious Affairs, the expression that ''period of Koran courses can't exceed two months and three days a week'' is lifted. Thus, way of giving religious education 365 days is paved. The regulation enables opening of evening Koran courses. Application of 10 students will be sufficient to open an evening Koran course. Administrators of Egitim-Sen who are getting prepared to file a lawsuit for annulment of the regulation visited President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Sezer said, ''I have seen it in newspapers. I asked my aides to examine it.''

CHALLENGING RIVALS
The draw for the qualifying for the 2006 World Cup to be held in Germany was held. Turkey will take on challenging teams in the qualifying round. Turkey is in the same group with Denmark, Greece, Ukraine, Georgia, Albania and Kazakhstan.

DESPITE TERRORISM
The foresight that ''bomb attacks would decelerate Turkey'' did not come true. According to foreign investment institutions, there would be more foreign exchange inflow in Turkey. Foreign investors gave the response to views that positive economic atmosphere in Turkey would be harmed by terrorism. Citigroup, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan 2004 used the same language for 2004: ''You are going well.'' The report of analysts of Citigroup foresaw that monetary and capital markets in Turkey were among economies which would receive the highest money inflow in 2004.

DENKTAS: ''I WILL RESIGN''
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said that Annan Plan would not be signed even if Turkey accepted it. Denktas noted, ''then, I have to tell Turkey to dismiss me from the office.'' Denktas stated that elections in TRNC would be held between those who believed that Annan Plan was the salvation and those who protect their state and motherland. Denktas added, ''EU which is spending this much money on the opposition will be empty-handed in the end.'' Denktas will present a new package of solutions approved by Ankara to United Nations Secretary General after the elections in TRNC. Denktas did not unveil contents of the package but said that they stressed on measures which took bi-zonal and bi-communal structure and Turkey's efficient status as guarantor state as the basis. Denktas added that the most important issue was the property issue.

TUGLUOGLU: ''WE WENT THERE FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION''
State Security Court (DGM) sources said that there was a possibility of a new radical structuring which was formed within an organization known as being behind the attacks in Istanbul. Any houses or vehicles registered under name of Hilmi Tugluoglu, who was captured after the attacks, were not found at the end of the investigation. Tugluoglu said that he had friendship and business relations with many people who had similar views, motto and belief with him and Azad Ekinci was one of them. Tugluoglu said, ''I met with Azad Ekinci three months before the incident. He said that he would go to Dubai. I did not see him after that.'' Tugluoglu added that he did not know 20 people who were detained in Syria together with him.

COSTS OF ATTACKS POINT TO AL QAIDA
Terrorism chose Turkey as its target for three reasons.
1- Turkey is a successful secular and democratic model.
2- The message that ''we have opened war to you'' is given.
3- They said ''we have the power to organize Turks.''
Security units calculate that terrorists spent 500 thousand U.S. dollars to stage the attacks in Istanbul and add, ''this money can't be met by organizations in Turkey. Therefore, possibility that Al Qaida met the costs of the attacks is high. In fact, twin attacks is a hallmark of Al Qaida.'' Special units found out that Al Qaida transferred money through couriers, cargo, and foreign exchange offices. The answer of the question why Turkey was chosen as the target is to prevent secular and democratic Turkey from being considered a good example for Islam world.

ERDOGAN: ''DELIRIOUS''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan filed a lawsuit to Topuz of Republican People's Party (CHP) who said, ''Erdogan was among administrators of terrorist and extreme rightist IBDA-C organization'' and demanded 100 billion Turkish liras (TL) of compensation. Erdogan said, ''they are in a delirious.''

BE EQUAL IN CYPRUS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted lunch for ambassadors of European Union (EU) member and candidate countries.
Erdogan stressed that linking Turkey's EU membership and Cyprus in EU Commission's Progress Report was not something beneficial, and noted that this was a tough approach.
Erdogan said will of Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides was obligatory for solution, noting that, ''both sides should consider that solution would be for their own interests.''

PRODI DUE IN TURKEY
EU Commission President Romano Prodi will visit Ankara between January 15 and 16.
This will be a visit in the highest level from the EU Commission to Turkey recently. Turkey's EU process and Cyprus issues are expected to be discussed.

THERE WILL BE NO OTHER ATTACK
Security Directorate General Spokesman Feyzullah Arslan said that there was no possibility of a new terrorist attack in Turkey, stating that police took every kind of measures.
Arslan replied to the questions of reporters at a weekly news conference.
When asked whether or not a new attack was expected following the four separate bomb attacks in Istanbul, Arslan said, ''there is not any possibility of a new attack in Turkey. Police take every kind of measures.''
Stating that Turkish police focused on intelligence studies against the attacks, Arslan said operations continued for the incidents that occurred.

TWO MORE TURKS TO BE RELEASED FROM GUANTANAMO
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said two of the six citizens, who were kept under custody in Guantanamo base of the United States, would be released.
Stating that the people in question would be sent to Turkey soon, Cicek said examination continued regarding the other four.

ELECTIONS IN CYPRUS WILL BE COVERED BY THE WORLD
Eyes of the world would be on Cyprus in December 14 elections which was stated to have great influence in future of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The elections will be covered by many international institutions and countries. Observers from European Union (EU), the United Nations (U.N.), and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and representatives from several countries will monitor December 14 elections which is described to be ''destiny elections''.
