ANKARA - "Turkey had to assume a more coherent and respected stance esteeming emotions of the Turkish nation on execution of Saddam Hussein, the ousted leader of Iraq," Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Monday.
Baykal responded questions of reporters in CHP HQ after exchanging greetings with the party members.
When a journalist said, "Turkey, which abolished death sentence, did not condemn the execution," and asked to comment on the issue, Baykal said, "it is sorrowful that the government was contented with only saying 'this is Iraq's internal affairs'."
"Unfortunately, Iraq's fragmentation process continues deepeningly. This creates concern for Turkey and the region," he noted.
