MOSCOW - Russia and Belarus signed a contract late Sunday on Russian gas deliveries to its western neighbor, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Belarus's first deputy prime minister Vladimir Semashko announced.
"The Belarussian side, in a difficult atmosphere on the eve of the new year, signed an agreement on unfortunate terms," Semashko said.
The last-minute deal came as Russia was on the verge of cutting gas supplies to Belarus over a pricing row that had prompted fears of energy disruptions in western Europe.
