ERZURUM - Cold weather started to paralyze daily life, especially in Southeastern Anatolia region, because of heavy snowfall, it was reported on Thursday.
Temperatures dropped down to (-30) degrees celsius in eastern city of Erzurum.
Executives of Weather Service said fuels of vehicles, pipes of potable water system, and rivers watering wild animals have frozen.
On the other hand, an elderly person in Bozova town of southeastern city of Sanliurfa and a shepherd in central Anatolian city of Kayseri, froze to death.
A strong storm in Mediterranean region overthrow the electric poles.
Sources said roads of 1376 villages were closed to traffic in eastern cities of Van, Hakkari and Agri, because of heavy snowfall. There were avalanches in 15 places in Hakkari, Van, Sirnak and Cukurca.
As to the Black Sea region, road of 1017 villages in Kastamonu, Samsun, Ordu and Sinop were totally blocked. Schools recessed in some towns of Samsun and Ordu.
