ANKARA - "The presidency should be carried out by a person of merit. Turkey needs a representative who is above all interest groups," head of the Turkish Confederation of Employers` Unions (TISK), Tugrul Kudatgobilik, said on Wednesday, arguing that none of leaders of the current political parties in Turkey fell into that "category".
"Presidency is a neutral position. Thus the president should be an objective arbitrator," he said. "President should reverberate the voice of the social conscience."
Kudatgobilik also proposed a number names who he saw as "possessing the necessary qualities to be the president" such as former foreign ministers Kamran Inan and Hikmet Cetin, prominent scholar Ihsan Dogramaci and Bulent Eczacibasi, a leading industrialist and spokesman for Turkish business.
