ROME - Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Sami Guclu who is currently in Rome for the 32nd term meeting of U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) met with FAO Director General Jacques Diouf on Wednesday.
Speaking to A.A after the meeting, Guclu said that his meeting with Diouf was positive.
''We asked support from FAO about some projects which concern our country. We also proposed transformation of FAO's Ankara office into an accredited office for neighbouring countries. If this comes true, FAO's Ankara office can also serve neighbour countries such as Azerbaijan and Georgia. Mr. Diouf promised to support our projects and he welcomed our proposal about FAO's Ankara office,'' said Guclu.
In Diouf-Guclu meeting, four projects which closely concerned Turkey came to agenda. They are ''geographical information systems and monitoring agriculture,'' ''irrigation consultancy services,'' ''early warning system in fight with drought,'' and ''fight with animal illnesses that cross borders.''
Guclu said that they also worked about reconstruction of Turkish National FAO Committee.
Guclu invited Diouf to Turkey. Diouf accepted it and the date of the visit would be fixed later.
