ISTANBUL - "Behic Asci must end the death fast he has been conducting for 265 days," Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Tuesday after meeting lawyer Behic Asci who is in a bid to protest F-type (cell system) prisons.
Speaking after his meeting with family of Behic Asci and representatives of some NGOs, Arinc said:
"His health is in risk. It is not possible for the Parliament to remain indifferent to this fact. We want this `death fast` to end so that he may recover," Arinc indicated.
"If he ends death fast soon, I mean in the first week of January, a (parliamentary) delegation will work on this issue (amelioration of conditions in jails)," he added.
On the other hand, Asci`s mother Fazilet Erdogan said, "I don`t think he will end the death fast until the F type prisons ends."
