TRABZON - World Wildlife Fund (WWF) initiated a project to protect Eastern Black Sea Basin, which is one of the 26 water basins of Turkey.
The project aims to protect water resources, soil and forest in Eastern Black Sea region, and to establish required infrastructure for sustainable management of these natural resources.
Buket Bahar Divrak, Project Coordinator of Eastern Black Sea Integrated Basin Management, told A.A that WWF declared Eastern Black Sea Basin as one of the most important 200 ecological regions of the world in the aspect of bio-diversity.
"The basin is also one of the most important forestry products regions of Turkey, as well as agriculture and economic wise," she added.
Divrak said that Firtina Valley was chosen as pilot region for the project, which will be carried out within Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). It will stay in effect until June 2008.
