AMASRA - The crew of the Maltese-flagged cargo ship which was adrift off Amasra town of northern city of Bartin under strong winds early on Tuesday, left the ship by the help of a rope thrown to the shore.
Rescue teams could not reach the ship named "Flora" yet, which was adrift and listed to one side after it leaked in water when it was anchored at Amasra port.
Some crew members were seen reaching the shore with the help of a rope they have tied up to a tree by coming out to the deck of the ship despite big waves.
Coast guard officials stated that 4 of the 10 members of the crew who have succeeded to reach land, will be rescued by gendarmery forces.
Meanwhile, the two Skorsky helicopters which had to return back to Ankara due to bad weather conditions, headed for Amasra again to continue rescue efforts.
