SABANCI: "LET US LEAVE THE GENEROUS INTEREST RATES AWAY"
Pointing to the rate interests conflicting with the inflation target, Akbank chairman Erol Sabanci said that the real interest rate should not be more than 8 percent which he calls "even a generous figure".
Sabanci also underlined that the sector-share of the banks whose managements have been transferred to foreigners, should not exceed 20-25 percent and added, "We can not leave the artery of the economy to foreigners".
BRAZILIAN`S SON-IN-LAW BECOMES ADVISER TO GUL
New appointments for the two most important vacant positions at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs were carried into effect yesterday.
While Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan who was assigned as Turkey`s Ambassador in Tel-Aviv devolved his duties upon to Levent Bilman; Murat Esenli, who is also the son-in-law of Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim, was appointed as the new top adviser to Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.

Turkey is under the influence of cold and snowy weather coming through Black Sea. Heavy snowfall and strong northeast wind are expected in east of Marmara, Black Sea, eastern and southeastern Anatolia regions.
STATEMENT ON HEADSCARF DISCONCERTS PARLIAMENT
Tension escalated at Parliament during debates on 2007 budget yesterday. Justice & Development Party (AKP) deputies reacted to statements of main opposition Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal who said, "headscarf is only a cloth which covers hair. It cannot cover shames of people."

Turkish Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Ergin Saygun visited Israel for military-strategic meetings. The agenda is Iran`s Sahap missiles.
SNOW TODAY AND TOMORROW
The temperatures will drop and snow will be seen across the whole country. Heavy snowfall is expected today and tomorrow in Marmara, Black Sea, east and southeast Anatolian regions.

ERCAN: "THERE WILL NOT BE A 7.6-EARTHQUAKE BEFORE 2225"
Contradicting statements of the professors commenting on a possible earthquake in Turkey`s Marmara Region continue.
Honorary President of the Geophysics Institution of Turkey, Professor Ahmet Ercan, said that there would not be a magnitude-7.6 earthquake before 2225 when looked at the accumulation speed of quake energy.
"Marmara which emptied the pressure in Kocaeli in 1999, is tired. The possibility of Marmara to recover itself in short term and form a new earthquake is very low," Ercan said.

SNOW AND NORTHEAST WIND ALARM IN TURKEY
Istanbul Meteorology Department Director Mustafa Yildirim warned citizens and officials against tough weather conditions which will affect the city until Thursday. Snowfall is expected in Black Sea, central and eastern Anatolian regions as of today.

GEORGIA AND TURKEY AGREE ON NATURAL GAS
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili`s negotiations with Turkey aiming to evaluate alternative resources resulted positively.
Georgia will meet its natural gas requirement for 2007 with the 800 million cubic meter Azerbaijani gas it will receive from Turkey.
BE PREPARED FOR SNOW, STORM AND ICE
Meteorology sources warned: "Effective snow is expected in eastern Marmara, Black Sea, eastern and southeastern Anatolia. Moreover, northeast wind will hit Marmara, Aegean, western Black Sea and Mediterranean regions".
Sources also said that thickness of the snow is expected to reach 20-25 cm in cities and 35-40 cm in high altitudes and rural areas.

THEY DID NOT KEEP THEIR PROMISE
Ankara and Athens mutually promised that there will be no dog fight between aircraft. However, Greek air forces prevented flight of Turkish aircraft.
BILMAN REPLACES TAN
After Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan was appointed as ambassador to Israel, the new spokesman has become Mehmet Levent Bilman.

PROVOKER ACCUSATION TO BAYKAL
A cross-talk happened between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and main opposition Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal during debates on budget at Parliament. Erdogan defined Baykal as provoker after Baykal claimed that Erdogan will not become President.
