ASKKHABAD - "We believe that the Justice & Development Party (AKP) will come to political power on its own in the next period," Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Saturday.
Gul replied to questions of journalists during his journey to Turkmenistan to attend the funeral for President Saparmurat Turkmenbasi.
When asked about upcoming general elections, Gul said, "we believe that the AKP will come to political power on its own in the next period."
Upon a question about Turkmenistan, Gul said, "there have always been friendly relations between the two countries. We attend the funeral for President Turkmenbasi to commiserate with Turkmen people."
"We believe that Turkmenistan will always have a brilliant future. It will successfully complete this transition period. We observe that Turkmenistan has already taken the necessary steps to prevent any instability in this period. We believe that Turkmenistan will succeed in further strengthening its democracy and economy, and become one of the most powerful countries in its region," he said.
When asked whether he expected any turmoil in Turkmenistan, Gul said, "we do not expect such a turmoil. Turkmen people have their own Constitution."
