Ziyal In Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal arrived in Washington D.C. late on Monday to attend meetings of Turkey-the United States Economic Partnership Commission.
Representatives of Union of Turkish Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), Economic Development Foundation (IKV) and Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) have been accompanying Ziyal.
Ziyal is scheduled to meet with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Marc Grossman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley.
He is also expected to meet with representatives of Jewish organizations.
During meetings of Turkey-the United States Economic Partnership Commission, issues such as efforts to increase trade between the two countries, Turkey's implementing its economic policies, qualified industrial zones and the Baku-Ceyhan oil pipeline project will be taken up.
Turkey's contribution to rebuilding process of Iraq, combat against terrorism, the Cyprus question, and recent developments in Iraq and in Afghanistan are the issues which are expected to be brought onto agenda during meetings of Ziyal with U.S. officials.
The decision to form Turkey-the United States Economic Partnership Commission was taken during the visit of then Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit to Washington D.C. in January of 2002.
The commission held its first meeting in Turkey in fall of last year.
Although, it was earlier decided to hold these meetings twice in a year, spring term meetings could not be held due to the war in Iraq.
