STRASBOURG - European Union`s chief executive voiced his satisfaction Tuesday over a decision by EU foreign ministers to impose a partial freeze on Turkey`s entry talks in response to Ankara`s failure to open up to trade with Greek Cypriots.
EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso described the decision as "fair and balanced."
"The decision sent a clear message to Turkey," Barroso told a joint press conference with Vice President Guenter Verheugen and Commissioner for enlargement Olli Rehn.
"Turkey is not treated exceptionally. It is just the application of the rules," Barroso said.
