VIENNA - Austrian Prime Minister Wolfgang Schussel said Tuesday that outcome from Turkey`s entry talks will be "anything but full membership."
"Turkey`s negotiations are open-ended," Schussel told joint press meeting with his Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik. "... which means that the outcome can be something other than a full-fledged membership."
Schussel also sought to ease popular fears that Europe would see an "exodus" of Turkish immigrant workers if Turkey was granted accession.
"There are protection mechanisms against Turkey. First of all, it is out question for us to open the Austrian labor market to Turkish workers," he said.
When asked in case the entry talks would conclude to grant Turkey full membership in the EU, Schussel said Austria would hold a referendum on the issue.
Plassnik characterized the EU foreign ministers` decision on future of Turkey`s membership negotiations as "fair," and said that there were no "special discounts" for Turkey.
EU foreign ministers agreed Monday to impose a partial suspension on Turkey`s membership talks over a ports dispute with Greek Cypriot administration.
