TUZLUKCU-KONYA - 12.12.2006 - Turkey is the richest country in Europe in terms of geothermal potential, chief of Turkey`s mining authority said on Tuesday.
"In terms of geothermal potential, Turkey ranks the first in Europe and the seventh in the world," Mehmet Uzer, DG of Mineral Research&Exploration (MTA), told an opening ceremony of a geothermal well bore in Tuzlukcu town of Konya province.
Uzer said that 184 geothermal fields have been explored since 1962, and that 13 of these fields were suitable for electricity production while 94 of them can be used in residential heating.
