STRASBOURG - European Parliament will open a debate on Turkey`s EU accession in its plenary session tomorrow (December 13th).
European Parliament`s Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Elmar Brok`s report on "enlargement strategy" and Alexander Stubb`s report on "EU`s capacity to integrate new member states" will be discussed at the plenary.
Brok`s draft report criticizes the European Commission`s position in regard to enlargement issues, noting that Turkey should be devoted to good neighborhood relations, including a comprehensive solution to Cyprus question.
The draft report emphasizes "absorption capacity", and criticizes the European Commission since it failed to put forth the principles "that would strengthen this concept".
On the other hand, Stubb`s report on "EU`s capacity to integrate new member states" indicates that institutional, financial and political reforms should be put into practice before a new wave of enlargement.
