MOSCOW - A Turkish diplomat was stabbed in downtown Moscow late on Sunday after a quarrel with a Russian couple, news agency RIA-Novosti reported Tuesday.
Anil Cicek, an undersecretary at the Turkish Embassy in Moscow, was stabbed and injured by an unidentified Russian citizen over a dispute about a purse Cicek friend`s had lost at a restaurant.
Novosti said that Cicek and his friend saw the couple, one of whom was carrying a similar purse, and followed them out of the restaurant.
Cicek stopped the couple after a brief pursuit but realized that the handbag did not belong to his friend. The Russian guy, who got angry with Turkish diplomat`s behaviour, stabbed Cicek and injured him, Novosti reported.
Cicek, who was rushed to the hospital, told the AA that he underwent a surgical operation and his condition is now good .
An investigation was underway on the incident, a Russian official said.
