Türkiye will host an Asia-Pacific Countries Summit on 5–7 April 2007, Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister Abdullatif Sener announced during high-level talks in Ankara in December 2006.
The announcement came as the fourth session of the Türkiye-New Zealand Joint Economic Commission opened in Ankara, co-chaired by Sener and New Zealand Trade Minister Phil Goff.
Sener highlighted steady growth in bilateral trade, which rose from 28 million USD in 2001 to 70 million USD in 2005. He added that Türkiye, following the launch of an Asia-Pacific export strategy in 2005, expected its exports to the region to reach 3 billion USD in 2006.
Goff said New Zealand intended to pursue agreements with Türkiye on mutual investment protection and the prevention of double taxation. He also pointed to potential cooperation in agricultural technology and confirmed that New Zealand fully backs Türkiye's bid to join the European Union.
