STRASBOURG - Leaders of political groups in the European Parliament (EP) expressed their support to the decision that was made on Turkey`s EU accession process in the EU General Affairs Council yesterday.
Hans Gert Poettering, leader of Christian Democrat Group in the EP, said that EU leaders made "a reasonable decision".
Stating that they want Turkey`s entry talks to go on, Poettering noted, "all we are aware of the situation in Iraq, Iran and the Middle East. We attach great importance to friendly relations with Turkey."
Martin Schulz, leader of Socialist Group, stated that EU ministers made an expected decision.
On the other hand, Daniel Cohn Bendit, leader of Green Party, said that EU should also fulfill its responsibilities on lifting of isolations imposed on Turkish Cypriots.
