Turkey Pays Compensation To Greek Cypriot Loizidou

STRASBOURG - Officials of Council of Europe (COE) said on Tuesday that Turkey paid compensation to Greek Cypriot citizen Titiana Loizidou under a decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The COE officials told A.A correspondent that Turkey paid almost 900 thousand U.S. dollars to Loizidou, including the principal money and the interest.
The committee of delegates is currently holding a meeting to discuss the contents of the decision to be taken after Turkey paid the compensation.
The committee made a decision at the beginning of November and asked Turkey to fulfil the requirements of ECHR decision till November 19. It warned that it would take a number of measures against Ankara in case Turkey did not fulfil the requirements of the decision.
In 1996, ECHR had decided Turkey to pay compensation to Loizidou in the case filed by this Greek Cypriot woman claiming that she was prevented from returning to his house and lands in the north of Cyprus after 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation.
