BERLIN - "There is no serious disagreement within German government regarding Turkey`s membership to the EU", said German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on Monday.
Steinmeier said he spoke to Chancellor Angela Merkel on the phone and they agreed that Turkey should be sanctioned for failing to implement Ankara Protocol.
"I am very confident that there will be an agreement at the end of this week," he however told German ARD television.
On the other hand, Luxembourg FM Jean Asselborn said that EU`s credibility will be in question today besides Turkey.
"We have to show that EU is not a combination of national interests," he told journalists before going in to EU foreign ministers meeting.
On his part, Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot stated that negotiations between the EU and Turkey should be suspended on ten chapters related to Customs Union.
