U.N. Resolution To Extend Mandate Of Peace Force In Cyprus Is Not Binding For T.R.N.C.

LEFKOSA - Foreign and Defense Ministry of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Monday that United Nations (U.N.) Security Council resolution to extend mandate of peace force in Cyprus for another six months was not binding for TRNC.
A statement of TRNC Foreign and Defense Ministry said, ''we would like to stress that this resolution which ignores existence of two separate and sovereign states in the island is not binding for TRNC.''
The statement underlined that the claims made in the resolution that ''violations by Turkish Cypriot side and Turkish forces continued and increased in Akyar village'' had nothing to do with the facts.
''Security of Akyar village, which is a part of TRNC, is being ensured by TRNC Security Forces Command and it is not possible to accept some infrastructural works necessary for unproblematic border crossings as 'violation','' the statement said.
The statement added, ''this resolution which doesn't reflect realities in the island is away from contributing to atmosphere of confidence and positive atmosphere tried to be formed by initiatives of TRNC.''
