AFYONKARAHISAR - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Spanish Prime Minister Joe Luis Rodriguez Zapatero today.
According to sources, Zapatero who called Erdogan evaluated the recent developments about Turkey's relations with EU. Zapatero stated that they would continue supporting Turkey's EU membership bid.
PM Erdogan had a phone conversation with Russian President in the morning. In the phone conversation which lasted for 45 minutes, both leaders restated that the United Nations is the right place to solve the Cyprus issue. Regarding Turkey's latest step, Putin defined it as "a good step" and emphasized Turkey's EU membership as a factor of stability for the region.
Erdogan also informed the Russian leader on his recent visits to Iran and Syria.
