ANKARA - The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced that a total of 147 thousand 828 motor vehicles were registered while 12 thousand 752 motor vehicles were withdrawn from the records in January-August period of 2003.
In the same period last year, 80 thousand 494 motor vehicles were registered while 9 thousand 53 motor vehicles were withdrawn from the records.
By the end of August of 2003, of all registered motor vehicles, automobiles have 61.3 percent share; motorcycles have 14 percent share; small trucks have 12.1 percent share; trucks have 5.3 percent share; and minibus, bus, road construction, work machinery and special purpose vehicles have 7.3 percent share.
The motor vehicles registered in the January-August period of 2003 were concentrated in the provinces of Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Aydin, Bursa, Hatay, Mersin, Istanbul, Izmir and Mugla.
The rate of motor vehicles in these selected provinces is 66 percent.
In term of usage, 90 percent of automobiles, minibus, bus, small truck and truck is private, 7.3 percent is commercial and 2.7 percent is official.
The trademarks of motor vehicles registered first time in January-August period of 2003 are as follows: Renault 23.6 percent, Volkswagen 12.1 percent, Ford 9.4 percent, Tofas 9.3 percent, Opel 7.8 percent, Toyota 7.6 percent, and others 30.2 percent.
