LEFKOSA - U.S. State Department's Special Coordinator for Cyprus Thomas Weston met with National Unity Party (UBP) Secretary General Suha Turkoz and deputy Ilker Nevzat in the United States's representation in TRNC.
Following the meeting, Turkoz said that they discussed efforts to reach a consensus in Cyprus with Weston.
Turkoz said that Turkish Cypriot people's expectations were very different from issues mentioned in the United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan.
Stating that although Annan's plan was very comprehensive, it was a plan with which Turkish Cypriot people would experience again the same things that they had experienced in the past, Turkoz said, ''if a solution is wanted in Cyprus, accurate diagnosis should be put on the issue.''
Turkoz said that UBP's proposals for a solution coincided with views of Turkish Cypriot people and stated, ''we know what we want to do and we know that we are on the right path. We conveyed our messages on this issue to Weston. We wanted Weston to support us on the path of reaching a solution.''
