ANKARA - Iraqi Interim Governing Council member Sheik Mohammad Taki Al Mevlevi expressed on Friday belief that terrorism could be overcome by cooperation of regional countries.
Al Mevlevi told A.A correspondent that terrorism caused instability in the region and nobody could gain from that instability.
That problems should be solved in close cooperation among Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria, Al Mevlevi said.
Al Mevlevi stated that their meetings in Ankara were very positive and they would get concrete results out of their meetings.
They reached a consensus on increasing capacity of border gates, ensuring secure passages, constructing railways and highways, ensuring security of Kirkuk-Yumurtalik oil pipeline and enabling Turkish businessmen to take more roles in infrastructural investments in Iraq in their meetings, Al Mevlevi pointed out.
Recalling that commercial issues in Iraq were mainly in hands of the Americans at the moment, Al Mevlevi said that Iraqi people would start to undertake authorities as of February 2004.
Al Mevlevi underlined that transfer of Turkey's labor force and infrastructure would be an important factor in reconstruction of Iraq.
They wanted Turkish companies to undertake projects in Iraq, Al Mevlevi said.
Al Mevlevi stated that Turkey was one of most effective countries in the region and was very important for Iraq.
Turkey could play a big role in reconstruction and security of Iraq, Al Mevlevi said.
Al Mevlevi noted that terrorist activities in the region could be prevented by determination of regional countries like Iran, Iraq and Syria.
Terrorist actions in Iraq were staged by former supporters of Saddam Hussein and Al Qaida, Al Mevlevi said.
Al Mevlevi stressed that improvement of economic and political relations among regional countries would play an important role in prevention of terrorism.
