ANKARA - Namik Tan, spokesman for the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied several comments claiming that "Turkey could use combat troops in Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism as there was such a request, and Turkey would give an affirmative response to that request".
Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Tan said that news reports that "Turkey pledged to send troops and equipment to Afghanistan during the NATO Heads of State & Government Summit in Riga, Latvia" were totally baseless.
"Turkey has been maintaining its contributions to Afghanistan under the previously set frame. There is not any other missions," he added.
