Amsterdam to Showcase Ottoman Art in Major Winter Exhibition

Amsterdam's historic De Nieuwe Kerk Church will host a major exhibition of Ottoman and Turkish-Islamic art from 16 December through 15 April.

Titled 'Istanbul, City of the Ottoman Sultans,' the show draws roughly 300 works from three leading institutions: the Topkapi, Sadberk Hanim, and Sabanci museums.

Visitors will encounter sultan portraits, imperial caftans, carpets, diplomatic gifts, historical paintings, miniatures, glazed tiles, narghile (water pipes), and rare examples of literature, science, and musical instruments.

The exhibition is organized into 12 thematic sections, each centered on a distinct location within Istanbul. Settings represented include the Covered Bazaar, a café, a Turkish bath, a waterfront house, a cemetery, a mosque, a dervish lodge, and a library.
