ANKARA - "We expect the EU to fulfill its commitment on lifting of isolations imposed on TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus)," Turkish State Minister & Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan said on Wednesday.
Appearing on CNN International tv channel in London, Babacan stated that they always underlined that they would not take unilateral step on the Cyprus issue.
"EU earlier committed that isolations on TRNC will be lifted. We will not take any step, before isolations are lifted," he stressed.
Stating that Turkey whose majority of its population is Muslim and which is a secular country fulfilled democratic reforms, Babacan underscored, "Turkey's democratic implementations in regard to its EU accession process have been monitored by other countries in the region. Those countries consider Turkey a model."
In regard to the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Turkey, Babacan stated, "Pope gave the message on necessity of dialogue between religions. Turkey's EU accession process is important for dialogue between different religions and cultures."
