Hamburg - Czech side Slovan Liberec claimed their first victory of the UEFA Cup group stage with a 4-1 drubbing of Grasshoppers Zurich while Turkey's Fenerbahce humbled Italy's Palermo 3-0 Thursday.
Goals from Jan Blazek (7th minute), Tomas Zapotocny (21), Petr Paousek (68) and Tomas Frejlack (90) boosted Liberec's hopes of qualifying from Group C.
Roland Schwegler was on target for the visitors in the 9th minute.
Liberec, who had been thrashed 4-0 by SC Braga and held to a goalless draw by Sevilla in their previous group games, move up to 4 points, two behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.
It was the second heavy defeat for Swiss side Grasshoppers who had been beaten 5-2 by Alkmaar in their only previous match in the group.
Sevilla and Braga were playing later in the evening, while Dutch side Alkmaar had a rest day.
In Group H, Fenerbahce sank Serie A high-fliers Palermo in Istanbul with goals from Ghana striker Stephen Appiah (20), Uruguayan defender Diego Lugano (62) and Tuncay Sandi (83).
Fenerbahce leapfrog the Italians in the group to go second behind English side Newcastle United who were playing Celta Vigo later.
Meanwhile in Group F, Sparta Prague picked up their first point in three matches with a goalless draw against visiting Ajax.
