Vettel to Race in World Series by Renault While Keeping BMW-Sauber Test Role

BMW-Sauber confirmed Tuesday that 19-year-old German driver Sebastian Vettel will compete for British squad Carlin Motorsport in the World Series by Renault in 2007, alongside his existing position as test and reserve driver for the BMW-Sauber Formula One team.

BMW motorsport director Mario Thiessen said the arrangement was designed to give Vettel additional competitive mileage at a critical stage of his development. Vettel noted that any scheduling conflicts would be resolved in Formula One's favor.

The World Series by Renault, launched in 2005, serves as a development platform for young motorsport talents aiming for careers in GP2, Champ Car, or Formula One. Polish driver Robert Kubica, the series' most recent champion, has since moved into F1 competition.

The Formula Renault 3.5 car used in the series produces 425 horsepower and features advanced aerodynamics, offering high performance while keeping team costs manageable across the season.
