ANKARA - A report prepared by the Turkish Security Department on "Honor Killings" revealed that men accounted for 60 percent of victims of such murders in the last six years.
According to the report, 1091 homicides were committed and 1190 people were murdered in Turkey in the last six years due to reasons such as blood feud, sexual harassment, adultery and rape.
"Most of the homicides were committed in northwestern, western and central parts of Turkey. 212 events occurred in Marmara region, 209 in Aegean region, 192 in central Anatolia, 144 in southeastern region, 141 in southern region, 95 in eastern region and 87 in northern region. 1593 people including 180 women were involved in those events which resulted in killing of 1190 people. Men accounted for 60 percent of victims of such murders," the report indicated.
Meanwhile, the Security Department asked support of non-governmental organizations for their initiatives to prevent honor killings.
