ISTANBUL - The rate of Turkish women who are exposed to violence is 34 percent while this rate is 46 percent for children, Turkish State Minister Nimet Cubukcu said today.
Making a keynote speech in a conference on "domestic violence" held at Istanbul's Bahcesehir University, Cubukcu noted, "not only women and children but also the elderly are facing domestic violence."
Cubukcu stated that 76 percent of children who face violence from their parents are resorting to violence in their daily life.
-PROBLEMS OF WOMEN LIVING IN CITIES-
According to Cubukcu, women living in urbans cannot easily say that they are exposed to violence.
Cubukcu said that her ministry is organizing meetings to increase consciousness in order to prevent domestic violence, expressing belief that violence will be reduced as more people become conscious about this matter.
