Tel Aviv - The Israeli army confirmed Sunday that it called off an airstrike on the house of a prominent Gaza militant, after hundreds of Palestinians flocked to the location to serve as "human shields."
Palestinians had formed the shield at the home of Mohammed Baroud, a senior commander of the Popular Resistance Committees, late Saturday night after he received a telephone call from the Israeli army, giving him 30 minutes to vacate his house before it was bombed.
As news of the telephone call spread, hundreds of Palestinian civilians surrounded the house, chanting "death to America" and "death to Israel" and forcing Israel to call off the airstrike.
