AC Milan stopped a three-game losing streak on Saturday, playing to a goalless draw at Empoli in Serie A action. The result offered little comfort for the struggling club, which sits fifth from the bottom of the table with only eight points, partly the consequence of an eight-point penalty handed down after a summer match-fixing investigation.
Milan created several clear chances but could not convert. Christian Brocchi missed narrowly in the sixth minute, Ricardo Oliveira struck the crossbar 10 minutes later, and the Brazilian forward hit the post just before halftime. After the break, Kaka's close-range volley was turned away by Empoli goalkeeper Daniele Balli with a diving save.
Empoli keeper Balli was tested again when Milan's Brazilian goalkeeper Dida, working at the other end, had to block two efforts from Antonio Busce to preserve the draw. Substitute appearances by Filippo Inzaghi and Yoann Gourcuff failed to sharpen Milan's attack.
Empoli, meanwhile, sit comfortably in joint fourth place with 16 points from 12 matches. Later in the weekend, Palermo travel to Cagliari while Inter Milan host Reggina on Sunday.
