Hamburg - Schalke 04 moved to the top of the German Bundesliga on Saturday with a 4-2 victory at Energie Cottbus, while previous leaders VfB Stuttgart lost 2-1 at Bayern Munich.
Schalke were up two goals after just 15 minutes, but allowed the home side back into the game with two goals within the space of three minutes shortly before the break.
Christian Pander scored a third for Schalke early in the second half though with a direct freekick before Levan Kobiashvili put the game beyond the home side six minutes from the end to take Schalke to the top of the table.
In Munich current Bundesliga top scorer Mario Gomez gave Stuttgart an early lead, but Roy Makaay and Claudio Pizarro turned the deficit around to take Bayern to 23 points - one behind Stuttgart and three behind Schalke.
Werder Bremen, who drew 2-2 at Alemannia Aachen moved to second on 24 points.
In other matches Hertha Berlin won 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund, while Nuremberg came from behind to beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-2. Beleaguered coach Thomas Doll will face even more pressure after his SV Hamburg side played to a goalless draw at bottom club Mainz 05.
