Brad Pitt stepped forward to defend security personnel working with his partner Angelina Jolie after three of her bodyguards were arrested in Mumbai following complaints from parents at a local school.
The dispute arose during filming at the Anjuman-E-Islam school, where part of the building had been dressed to look like a Pakistani police station for the movie A Mighty Heart. Parents waiting outside alleged the guards blocked students from leaving, used abusive language, and directed comments such as 'You bloody Indian' at children and women. The guards were later released on bail.
Pitt told the NDTV news channel he was certain no one on their team held racist views, calling it a 'terrible misunderstanding' that contradicted the film's message.
Jolie had been in Mumbai for about a week shooting the film, in which she portrays Mariane Pearl, wife of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Pearl was abducted and killed in Pakistan in 2002 while reporting on Islamic militant groups following the September 11 attacks.
