Rome - Giro d'Italia champion Ivan Basso is prepared to take a DNA test in an effort to clear his name in the wake of a doping probe by Spanish police, a press report said Friday.
Basso, who was suspended with other riders on the eve of the start of this year's Tour de France, has made a commitment to his new team Discovery Channel to take a DNA test, Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport reported.
It quoted team manager Johan Bruyneel as saying Basso has accepted the test via his lawyer before he signs a contract with the team.
Basso, 28, learned last month that he won't be charged on doping violations by the Italian Olympic Committee CONI after Spanish prosecutors could offer no incriminating evidence.
Basso has always protested his innocence in the doping probe which has also implicated Germany's former Tour winner Jan Ullrich.
He has since parted company with his CSC team, joining the Discovery team where he will reportedly receive 1.5 million dollars a year.
