Greek Cooks Get Training About Turkish Cuisine

ISTANBUL - The Turkish Cuisine Education Programme organized by Cultural and Tourism Ministry for Greek cooks started in Armada Hotel, Istanbul on Monday.
The training programme is organized within the scope of the First Term Tourism Joint Commission Protocol signed between the two countries in Athens, Greece on February 5, 2003.
Cultural and Tourism Ministry Research Training Directorate General's Istanbul branch chief Solmaz Bayburt said that nine trainer cooks came from Greek Tourism Education School within the scope of the protocol.
Bayburt said that the Greek cooks were given information about the historical development of Turkish cuisine since Ottoman era, the meals cooked on special days, weddings and difference of food culture in regions, adding that Greek cooks would also get practical training.
Andonis Sarimavroyanis, the chief of the Greek team said in his part that Turkish cuisine was one that needed to be known in professional aspect, adding that the Greek cooks who came to Istanbul would learn Turkish cuisine and teach it to cooks in their country. Stressing that this was a Turkish-Greek cooperation in tourism and cuisine, Sarimavroyanis said that there were many similarities between the cuisine of the two countries.
The training programme will finish on Nov. 21.
