LEFKOSA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that elections to be held in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in December would be the beginning of a new and more active era.
Following his meeting with leaders of political parties in TRNC, Erdogan told reporters that his meetings with leaders of ruling and opposition parties were very fruitful.
Erdogan said, ''in our meeting, we said that elections should be transparent and democratic and we don't have any concern about this. I think that invitation made by TRNC parliament to international organizations to monitor the elections is a positive step. Because, whoever wants can come and watch the elections here. They will see whether it is a democratic election.''
Noting that representatives of some international non-governmental organizations came to TRNC, Erdogan said that he believed that members of official institutions would come later.
Erdogan added, ''I hope that elections to be held in TRNC a month later will be the beginning of a new and more active era. Because, the process till May is a very important process. I believe that the ruling will make good use of this process. I think that Turkey and TRNC will take steps to make good use of this process.''
